Palästinah — El Flyer!

Flyers printed. 'nuff Sed.

Sketching Palestinian DNA

Above, you can see the working title and result of real life events: A couple of weeks ago, I was approached by a couple of great people with an idea that needed to be developped into a concept. The idea was an exhibition about Palestinian life and childhood as a refugee in Lebanon. In addition to this, we shall be staging a programme revolving around the theme in November, featuring dance, poetry, video and of course the photos. Selim Harbi you may know. He had a starring role in the Haus der Kulturen exhibition in which we presented pictures from the revolutions in Tunisia and Egypt. Nadia and Maya Grassmann were in Lebanon in 2009, where they gave children analogue cameras to play with. We will be showing their perspective on childhood as a palestinian refugee. The photo exhibition will be launching on the 30th of September at the Teather Aufbau Kreuzberg during their opening day do. Details to follow, as is a less sketchy version of events. The picture used here is by...

Munichs

One of the joys of being a graphic designer, in spite of all the vituperation in previous posts, is the ability to be in several places at the same time. So from Berlin, I have, through modern technology and the telephone, developed the ability to send and receive thoughts directly from the initiators of the freisprechanlage festival in Munich. Somehow, we have also managed to create a flyer for the festival. All as if we were sitting in the same room. With crumpets. And possibly some icky-sweet Arabic tea. As a long-time fan of complaints choirs ( the Finnish one still blows me away ) I could not help myself but support this particular workshop.  This part of Freisprechanlage is on in Munich from the 13th — 21st of July 2011. It is a platform3 project in cooperation with the Cairo (complaints) Choir . Watch this space, there's more coming your way from Munich and soon from Berlin.

Gets… well, musical

I haven't done one of these in a while… an honest- to- god concert flyer. The band is Neshez , from Tunisia, the date the thirtieth, the place is the Werkstatt der Kulturen. Be there or…  There is, somewhere in the depths of the internet, a super-secret alternate version of this. Drinks will be bought for the lucky finder.

Egypt: Faces

I'm very happy to announce a real-life event for a change: The photo exhibition Egypt: Faces collects pictures shot by photographers in Cairo and Berlin during the process of the January revolution. It gives a face to the Egyptian people on Tahrir and beyond, highlighting their problems, joys and fears.  It opens on the 10th at the Akademie der Künste in Berlin. And you're all invited ;)  You can see some of the pictures on display there in this photo gallery by Tamboly

Grand Guignol- the flyers.

When we last left off, sketches were being drawn and discussions were being had at what these flyers might look like. Now I am happy to report that the flyers for the Grand Guignol shows in October have enjoyed two print runs, with subtle differences. In todays post, those subtle difference between the two versions. The Front: What was once coming soon has now arrived in style! The Back: Nothing was hurt in the making of this flyer… I am also happy to report that this project has gained a website! Check in to find out more about what this Grand Guignol Malarky is all about! Up next: Posters and the actual show.

The Grand Guignol Sketches

In honour of something else that's been keeping me busy lately, these sketches I made for a theatre production of re-enacted Grand Guignol plays. They're going to be on around halloween, so keep an eye out for more on this front! The flyers will be distributed as of next week, so keep an eye out for something similar to these in Berlin! This also represents an experiment with paint on tablet. The plays are, after all, based on performances in the 19th and early twentieth century.
