London, a week on

Well, what we have we here.... A week on, almost to the day after the london massacres, and they have found the people pulling the strings, apparently. Why? The question keeps moving around.. if it was attention they were after, they certainly got it (the bombers and the people behind them).. In that, it was successful. If they want to sow the seeds of hate and paranoia in western capitals (Madrid, London...) They ara managing it superbly, especially if you go beyond the people on the streets and listen to the rethorics spewed by politicians. I really wonder how what they say sounds to an objective arab or Muslim or islamist or just concerned onlooker. It must sound like terror has allready won, in spite of all the reassurances that "we are doing all we can to increase security". If they wanted to polarise my class into a discussion about the rules of engagement as according to terrorists, they managed that as well. We seem to be engaged in a heated discussion about the whys

March

Ah... glorious march. The sunshine, the birds in the trees, the movies, the sleepless spring love... are all things that have not come to this dear cityof Berlin. Instead we have rain, winds and clouds... the birds sing desolatly from the drenched trees. What has happened in the meantime... my internship is drawing to it's close, finally time to study! We have in the time organised the following: An event in Montreux, CH, Two in berlin, sent countless promoters off to sell apples of all things, and cheese of all others, designed and printed numerous CD labels, finished our courier slips and had trouble ohne ende with bitchy printers. Glorious. We also have had a film shoot with about fifty unfed extras, underpayed and overworked... And I have not slept since last wednesday, when we shot until three in the morning. Glorious march indeed. Movies watched: The life aquatic yesterday, great fun and beautiful scenes, probably one of the mist surrealistic movies to hit the screens this ye

The Sun on the snow

The office blog continues, as the intern follows a conversation his bosses are having, whilst he is fabricating an excel table... The ideas floating around are wonderful and quite honestly, I am jealous not to be able to participate in that delicious discussion... after all, my field is more creative and events are a big interest of mine... in this case, it is a closed conversation about a fashion show pitch to take place sometime in 2006, which of course sounds intesting to me. In the meantime they are pretty well andvanced and I have taken an intersting phonecall after lunch. A mr. Somesuch called me and asked me if the Agency could organise a singles party, which is a laudable endeavour in itself, in one month. Not to put too fine a point on things, he sounded rather disorgaanised... they had no location, nor did they have a date to give me, nor could he tell me what he planned to do during the party. He didn't even have a budget (which is usually the first thing you need t

Achtung Berlin!

People, I am quite proud to announce this, since it has been in the works for so long and it is a project I once took part in that is finally coming to fruition... Achtung Berlin is the international Filmfestival related to and revolving around film production in the city of Berlin, one of the most underestimated cities in Europe when it comes to film production... The output is amazing and the concentration of talent and creativity here never ever fails to blow me away. And these people are going to bundle it all in one grand experiment, a dream come true... a miracle. Anyway, chek out their website, an amazing peice of graphical online content and so easy to navigate (I had a hand in at the early stages).

Ads and agencies

Well, it's been a while since I had the time and leisure to sit down and write a couple of lines to my dear blog. Strangely enough, now that I have found work and a sitting a a rather spacious office in Berlin, I do find that time. Happy new year, first and belated, happy chanukah, christmas and orthodox christmas, eid and all that you may celebrate. What has happened is that I finally found an internship/ job at the Avantgarde...which basically means that i am the bitch for the next three months, a position that takes some getting used to, considering that i have occupied art directing positions in the past... but hey, like people remind me, I get on their nerves by learning something new every day.... I do, about event organisation, motion graphics and loads of classified inside info about the inner workings, deals and machinations of a global advertising agency... the salary is a bummer (that's ok... better than no cash at aall, but slightly demotivating nontheless...
